How to Clear Browser Cache and Cookies

Objective

This article helps you resolve page loading errors, login issues, or broken user interface elements by guiding you through clearing your browser's cache and cookies. Over time, stored website data can become outdated or corrupted, causing unexpected behavior when trying to access web applications, customer consoles, or portals.

Procedure

Google Chrome (Desktop)

  • Open Google Chrome on your computer.
  • Click the three vertical dots menu icon in the top-right corner of the window.
  • Hover your mouse over Delete Browsing Data or select Settings and navigate to Privacy and security.
  • In the clear browsing data window, select a time range. To completely refresh your data, select All time.
  • Check the boxes next to Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.
  • Click the Delete data button.
  • Restart your browser or refresh the page you were trying to access.

 

Mozilla Firefox (Desktop)

  • Open Mozilla Firefox on your computer.
  • Click the three horizontal lines menu icon in the top-right corner of the window.
  • Click on Settings.
  • Click on Privacy & Security from the left-hand menu panel.
  • Scroll down to the Cookies and Site Data section.
  • Click the Clear Data button.
  • Check both boxes for Cookies and Site Data and Cached Web Content.
  • Click the Clear button, and then confirm by clicking Clear Now if prompted.

 

Apple Safari (Mac)

  • Open Safari on your Mac computer.
  • Click Safari in the top menu bar next to the Apple icon.
  • Click on Settings (or Preferences on older macOS versions).
  • Go to the Advanced tab.
  • Check the box at the very bottom that says Show features for web developers (or Show Develop menu in menu bar).
  • Close the Settings window. Look at your top menu bar and click on the new Developer menu option.
  • Click Empty Caches.
  • To clear cookies specifically, go back to Safari > Settings > Privacy, click Manage Website Data..., and click Remove All.

 

Microsoft Edge (Desktop)

  • Open Microsoft Edge on your computer.
  • Click the three horizontal dots menu icon in the top-right corner of the window.
  • Click on Settings.
  • Click on Privacy, search, and services from the left-hand menu panel.
  • Scroll down to the Clear browsing data section and click Choose what to clear.
  • Change the Time Range drop-down menu to All time.
  • Check the boxes next to Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.
  • Click the Clear now button.

What is a Cache? Your browser safely saves copies of web pages, images, and tools so websites load faster the next time you visit.

What are Cookies? Small files stored on your computer by websites to remember your preferences, login sessions, and settings.

Note: Clearing your cookies will log you out of most websites, so make sure you know your login credentials before completing these steps.
