“Your License Has Expired” and “VoIP Softphone is Disabled” Auto Dialer Error

Issue

If you use the “Auto Dialer” Chrome extension, you may encounter the following errors:

  • “Your license has expired”
  • “VoIP Softphone is disabled”

The errors can appear even if the extension was working previously and no changes were made to the browser or device.

Product

Programmable Voice

Environment

Twilio Console

Cause

The “Auto Dialer” is a third-party Chrome extension built by Nethram, which uses Twilio’s Programmable Voice APIs. Twilio does not manage the licensing or subscription for this extension. The “license expired” message indicates an issue with the extension’s license validation, not with Twilio’s core services.

Symptoms

  • The extension displays “Your license has expired” in the popup.
  • Hovering over the extension shows “VoIP Softphone is disabled.”
  • No Twilio numeric error code is shown.
  • The issue persists after:
    • Clearing browser local storage and cookies
    • Deleting extension data
    • Removing and reinstalling the extension
    • Allowing microphone permissions
    • Testing in multiple browsers (e.g., Chrome, Brave)

Resolution

  1. Contact the Extension Provider:
For licensing or subscription issues, reach out directly to Nethram, the developer of the extension:

  2. Twilio Support Scope:
Twilio Support cannot resolve licensing or subscription issues for third-party extensions. However, if you have questions about your Twilio account, API usage, or integrating Twilio Voice into your own application, Twilio Support can assist. “You can refer to this guidance for Twilio’s official stand on Third Party Products Twilio Help Center

Official Twilio Alternatives

Twilio does not offer or officially support any Chrome extensions for dialing. If you require a browser-based calling solution, consider building your own application using the Twilio Voice SDK for JavaScript. This approach provides:

  • Full control over the user experience
  • Direct integration with Twilio’s Programmable Voice APIs
  • Flexibility to customize features and UI

Additional Information

  • Always verify the support and licensing terms of any third-party extension before relying on it for business-critical operations.
  • For international calling, Twilio’s Programmable Voice APIs support outbound calls to most countries. Review Twilio’s Voice documentation for more details.
