Objective
You may want to test Twilio Studio Flows with WhatsApp before upgrading to a paid account. This article explains the options available for trial to experiment with WhatsApp integrations in Twilio Studio.
Key Points
-
WhatsApp Sender Setup Requires a Paid Account:
Due to WhatsApp’s verification and compliance requirements, you cannot set up a dedicated WhatsApp sender or use WhatsApp in production with a Twilio trial account. Upgrading to a paid Twilio account is required for full WhatsApp sender functionality. -
Testing with the Twilio Sandbox for WhatsApp:
Twilio offers a WhatsApp Sandbox, which allows trial users to test WhatsApp messaging and Studio Flows without upgrading. The Sandbox is a pre-configured environment that simulates WhatsApp messaging for development and testing purposes.
Product
Programmable Messaging
Environment
legacy Twilio Console
Procedure
-
Access the Sandbox:
Log in to your Twilio Console and navigate to the WhatsApp Sandbox. -
Join the Sandbox:
Follow the instructions to join the Sandbox using your personal WhatsApp number. You’ll send a code to a specific number to activate your access. -
Configure Studio Flows:
You can now use the Sandbox number as a sender in your Studio Flows. This allows you to build and test WhatsApp chatbots, automations, and other workflows. - Limitations:
- The Sandbox is for development and testing only.
- You cannot use your own WhatsApp business number or remove Sandbox restrictions until you upgrade your account and complete WhatsApp Business verification.
Additional Information
While you cannot set up a dedicated WhatsApp sender or use WhatsApp in production on a Twilio trial account, the WhatsApp Sandbox provides a way to test and develop WhatsApp integrations with Studio Flows. For full access, including using your own WhatsApp number, you’ll need to upgrade to a paid Twilio account and complete the WhatsApp onboarding process.
