How Do I Complete Registration for Alphanumeric Sender ID in Ireland?

Overview

As of 2025, ComReg the Irish regulator has introduced new Alphanumeric Sender ID registration in Ireland. While submitting your Alphanumeric Sender ID registration in Ireland happens in the Twilio console as described in Documents Required and Instructions to Register Your Alphanumeric Sender ID in Ireland, as part of this new registration process, ComReg also requires some additional steps to complete the registration process by validating your registration through their own portal. This article provides a step-by-step guide to complete the registration process.

What You Need To Know

Steps to completing your Alphanumeric Sender ID Registration in Ireland:

Receive Emails from ComReg 🔗

After you submit your registration request to Twilio and it has been submitted to ComReg, you will receive 2 emails from ComReg:

  • Email #1: Includes a link to ComReg’s portal along with your SMS Registry login details to activate your Sender ID Owner account.
  • Email #2: Includes instructions on completing your Alphanumeric Sender ID registration.

Create an Account on the ComReg Portal  🔗

Once you receive the emails from ComReg, you can create an account on ComReg’s portal by following the link in the email with pre-filled username and password. In some cases, customers might be required to login using an authenticator app for login.

5. ISVs will need to take the additional step of going to Actions > Third Parties and checking the Third Party Name (ISV) they are affiliated with.

Receive Registration Confirmation from Twilio 🔗

After you complete the approval on the ComReg portal, you will receive an email confirmation from Twilio and your Sender ID status will change to approved. Please note that Twilio will receive approvals daily from ComReg, so it may take up to 24 hours from approval to receive this confirmation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why have I received this email from ComReg?

As part of this new registration process for Alphanumeric Sender ID, ComReg also requires some additional steps to complete the registration process by validating your registration through their own portal. They will send you two emails after submitting your registration with instructions and your credentials for accessing their portal and completing these remaining steps.

I’m seeing terms like SIDO, OPA, etc., what do these mean?

You may see some acronyms/terms being used in the emails you’ve received from ComReg and in their portal related to the Alphanumeric Sender ID submission. Here’s a breakdown of what they refer to:

  • SIDO - Sender ID Owners. This is the brand that owns the Sender ID or to which the Sender ID belongs.
  • OPA - Originating Participating Aggregator (Twilio would be the OPA authorized in this process).
  • MSP - Mobile Service Provider.
  • Third Parties - As mentioned above, Third Parties refers to the ISV third party being allowed for the Sender ID.

The link in the email doesn’t work

If you’re having trouble with the email link or credentials provided in the email you received from ComReg, you may contact ComReg directly to re-issue those by replying to that email or contacting them directly.

I’m not seeing Twilio as the Provider in the email?

If you’ve received an email from ComReg, but Twilio is not listed as the provider, this could mean that another provider has already submitted the Sender ID on ComReg, but Twilio has not yet submitted the request. For example, this could have happened during the period when the ComReg portal was closed for everyone between March 20th - May 28th. In this scenario, customers will need to:

  1. Follow the steps in the email to create their Sender ID owners account on ComReg portal.
  2. Once they are in the portal, they need to go to My Sender IDs >  Actions > OPA Authorization, search for "Twilio Inc" in the list, and slide the radio button to Authorized.
  3. In the same window, they can authorize or not authorize all other service providers who they want to. For example, if they don't recognize a service provider, they may not authorize that provider in this step.

I’m having issues on ComReg’s portal

For general questions regarding the portal see the instructions in this article or ComReg’s own FAQ. If you’re experiencing technical issues or specific problems with the portal you may need to contact ComReg either through the Help tab in the portal or contacting them directly.

How do I know the status of my registration?

Your registration will remain “In Review” in the Twilio console until you’ve validated it with ComReg through the above process. Once you’ve completed that approval you’ll receive a confirmation email from Twilio and the status will then change to 'Approved'.

How do I know when the registration is complete?

Once you’ve completed approval in the ComReg portal, you will receive an email from Twilio confirming your registration is complete and the status of your registration will change from “In Review” to “Approved”. Please note that these approvals are being processed by Twilio daily and may take up to 24 hours after approval to appear in the Twilio console.

Can I register directly on the ComReg portal?

When using Twilio as your SMS Provider, it’s required that you register your Sender ID in the Twilio console. If you have mistakenly registered in the ComReg portal directly, please register your Sender ID with Twilio and we will assist you in reconciling the two registrations.
