This guide explains how to update your billing settings in Console, including address, business name, invoice email recipients, and PO number.
Where Can I Find These Settings?
These functionalities can be found on the Billing Preferences page in Console.
Notice: The Billing Preferences page can only be accessed by users with the Owner
, Administrator
, or Billing Manager
role. Users with the Developer
role will not be able to access this page, and will instead receive an HTTP 403 error. For help changing user access levels, see Adding, Removing, or Modifying Users with Your Twilio Project.
The Billing Preferences page is comprised of two tabs: Invoice Information
and Invoice Notifications
.
- The Invoice Information tab contains billing preferences available for all customers.
- The Invoice Notifications Tab contains email addresses, and email opt in / opt out settings.
Invoice Information
The Company Name can be added or edited on the Invoice Information tab. This field is used as the name for your account on your invoice. Any time you add or edit the Company Name, click Save to submit your changes.
To protect your data, please do not enter email addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers, or other personally identifiable information as your Company Name. For more information, see Twilio’s Privacy Policy.
Business Tax ID
Tax Identification numbers can be added or edited from the Invoice Information tab. This is how your business provides Twilio your information for taxation and invoicing purposes. To add your local Tax ID, you'll need to first select your Address country. Once the country is set, click I have a Tax Number, and enter your code. Then click Save to submit your changes.
Whether your country charges US sales tax, European VAT, GST, JCT, or something else, the I have a Tax number field is automatically renamed based on the country you select. Here's an example of what this field looks like when Australia is selected:
Notice: If you are unsure of your Tax ID format or validity, please check Fonoa.com for further information.
Twilio applies taxes to sales in multiple regions, and each have their own regulations and exemption policies. For more information about how we verify Tax ID numbers, see How Does Twilio Validate my Tax ID. For questions on where Twilio charges taxes, see our Taxes section in the Help Center.
Service Address
Your company's service address can be added or edited on the Invoice Information tab. A service address is the location from where you consume Twilio services, as well as the location from which Twilio calculates Sales Tax for your account. Any time you add or edit the Service Address, click Save to submit your changes.
When you save your updated service address, you may be prompted to correct or modify the address entered. In order to ensure you receive a valid tax invoice, please select a valid address in the suggestions presented from our database.
Notice: In the event that we detect an invalid Service Address, Twilio will default to the Billing Address (if one is listed) for taxation purposes. For more information, see When Does Twilio Charge Taxes.
PO (Purchase Order) Number
If you have a Purchase Order (PO) Number you would like to use for invoices, it can be added or edited on the Invoice Information tab. Any time you add or edit the PO Number, click Save to submit your changes.
The PO Number will take effect on the date you add the number, and the next invoice generated will display this new PO Number. For example, if you changed your PO Number on 4 Nov 2019, and your Oct 2019 invoice was generated on 5 Nov 2019, your October invoice will show PO Number 67890
- even though this number was added after October.
Billing Emails
Invoiced customers can add or edit the email address used for invoice notifications from the Invoice Notifications tab. The primary billing email address is the primary recipient; additional addresses can be listed or removed with the Add and Remove options. Any non-primary email addresses entered (shown in Console as "other billing email addresses") will be included in invoice email carbon copies (CCs). Any time you add or edit billing email addresses, click Save to submit your changes.
All email address entered go through basic verification to help ensure you have entered a valid address that is capable of receiving our emails. Twilio requires that invoiced customers have at least a valid primary billing email address on record in order to receive important invoice communications.
Monthly Notifications
If you would like to receive Invoice Reminder, Invoice PDFs, CSV supplements, and/or Payment receipts, customers can select these options from the Invoice Notifications tab. Any checked documents will be sent out to the Primary email address (and any additional billing addresses listed above) on a monthly basis.
Notice: If no email addresses are entered, the selected document(s) will be emailed to any users with the owner
, admin
, or billing
roles. For help checking the list of users and their associated roles, see Adding, Removing, or Modifying Users with Your Twilio Project.
