Twilio Verify is a global authentication service that protects millions of people around the world from fraud. Many businesses use Verify to send security codes when you log in or sign up for their service. When you request a one-time password (OTP), you may receive an RCS message like the one shown below.
What is RCS?
RCS is an improved and richer alternative to SMS, delivered over Wi-Fi and mobile data. It enhances text messaging by allowing the sending of images, videos, files, and having conversations with others. RCS messages are also more secure because they are encrypted and supported by major manufacturers and mobile platforms worldwide.
What is Twilio Verify?
Twilio Verify is designed to ensure that your online accounts are secure. It sends a unique security code to your phone, which you can use to verify your identity when accessing various services. This helps prevent unauthorized access and keeps your personal information safe.
How to Recognize a Legitimate Twilio Verify Message
You will only receive a security code from Twilio Verify if you are attempting to access an account online or sign up for a website. Here are some key points to remember:
- Do Not Share: Never share your security code with anyone. It is meant for your use only. No one from the business or Twilio Verify will ever ask you for this code. It is meant to be used only on the service’s prompt.
- Verify the Source: Ensure that the sender of the message is Twilio Verify if the message is RCS. Additionally, check that any brand name shown in the message body matches the service from which you requested the code.
- Stay Alert: If you receive multiple security codes without requesting them, it could indicate that someone is trying to access your account. In such cases, please contact the business attempting the verification. You should be able to find them in the body message.
