Can I change the owner of a Twilio account?

Objective

Twilio offers the option to change the owner of your Twilio account without the need to reach out to Twilio support.

Depending on how the account is currently set up, you may be able to self-service this change or need to reach out to Twilio Support for assistance. It is not possible to set an owner for a Twilio subaccount.

Note: Both of our self-service ownership change require the use or Twilio Organzations and the use of corporate domains. If you use free domain(gmail.com, outlook.com etc) for your users please check Support Assisted Account Owner Change below.

Self-Service Account Owner Change trough Twilio Organization

Change owner of already Managed Account

If the account is part of an Organization, customers can change the owner of a Managed Twilio Account through the Twilio Admin

  • If a old owner of the account is not yet managed by your Organization, you will need to invite the user or import them to your Organization.
Domains
A verified Domain is also required when adding Managed Users to your Organization. Only users with email domains matching the verified Domain(s) can be added as Managed Users to the Organization. If the Organization does not have a verified Domain, you will need to add a Domain before users can be managed by the Organization.

To change an account's owner from Twilio Admin:

  1. Go to the Managed Accounts page and select the account you want to change.
  2. Click on the General tab.
  3. Click on the Change Ownership link on the screen, nexts to the current owners email
  4. Enter the email address or User SID of the new owner(they also must be managed user in the Organization)
  5. Select the new owner.
  6. Click the Change Owner button.

Full information, prerequisites and a step by step guide about this feature can be found in Change owner of Twilio Account that is managed by Twilio Organization.

Change owner of Account on adding them to an organization

In a scenario where your company actively use the Organizations feature and your domain is not verified under it - we recommend to use this option.

If the current owner is no longer with customer company and an existing user from the account wants to take control of the account, they will have to:

If all the validations through this process pass, then you will be asked to verify your billing details through a form.

If the billing details verification goes through successfully then your request is successfully submitted and it will take 3 days to complete.
