Can I change the owner of a Twilio account?

Objective

Twilio offers the option to change the owner of your Twilio account without the need to reach out to Twilio support.

Depending on how the account is currently set up, you may be able to self-service this change or need to reach out to Twilio Support for assistance. It is not possible to set an owner for a Twilio subaccount.

Note: Both of our self-service ownership change require the use or Twilio Organzations and the use of corporate domains for the current and new owners.
If you use free domain(gmail.com, outlook.com etc) for your users please check Support Assisted Account Owner Change below.

Procedure

Self-Service Account Ownership Change Options

Twilio provides two self-service account ownership change flows can be used depending on the way our customers manage their Twilio Accounts.

Note: In case you are not sure how your Twilio accounts are managed - start with the first option. If you receive an error message - try using the second option to execute the ownership change yourself.

  • The first option is best suited to be used for companies that are not actively using the Twilio Organizations feature to manage the account(s), the current and new owners' domain(s) are corporate but not verified under Organization. Usually it is used when the old owner of the account is leaving or has left your company. To complete the ownership change - the new owner must verify details related to the account.
Full information, prerequisites and a step by step guide about this feature can be found in Twilio Account ownership change by adding existing Account to Organization
  • The second option is better suited for cases where the Twilio account is part of an actively managed Organization with the domain verified under it. In this case customers can change the owner of a Managed Twilio Account directly through the Twilio Admin
Full information, prerequisites and a step by step guide about this feature can be found in Change owner of Twilio Account that is managed by Twilio Organization.

Note: If the Organization owner needs to be updated, that is a different process. You can find out how to change the Organization Owner here.
