When porting my number, should I cancel my service with my current carrier?

When porting a phone number to Twilio, it's important that your phone number remains active on the current carrier until the port request has been completed.

Once you've received confirmation that your port request has been completed, we recommend that you contact your previous carrier to ensure that the phone number has been taken out of your account to prevent further charges.
