How Twilio charges for Short Code messages

You are charged for every message sent to your number that is received by Twilio as well as every message you send that is successfully handed off from Twilio to an upstream carrier. The price of each message is deducted from your Twilio project balance. Pricing for short code messages is below:

Short Code Type Messaging Cost
US SMS: $0.0075 outbound, $0.0075 inbound;
MMS: $0.02 outbound, $0.01 inbound
Canada SMS: $0.03 outbound, $0.005 inbound
UK SMS: $0.04 outbound, $0.0075 inbound

In addition there are small short code carrier fees that are added to the cost for all messages sent over a short code. For more details on pricing for sending SMS and MMS messages over short codes please see our messaging pricing page.

Please note that short codes must first be enabled to send MMS messages and there is a $500 one-time carrier fee that is applied to customers who wish to add MMS messaging to their new or existing short code. Please contact our sales team for more information on adding MMS messaging to your short code.

Any media files sent or received in your messages will be saved in your project separately. For more information please see our FAQ on media storage.
