If SMS continues routing to Twilio after you've ported your number to another carrier, it indicates that the re-routing process has not been fully completed by your new carrier. Here’s what you need to know and do:
- Responsibility of the Gaining Carrier: It is the responsibility of your new (gaining) carrier to complete the re-routing of SMS messages on a ported number.
- Action Required: If you experience issues with sending or receiving SMS messages after porting your number away from Twilio, you should contact your new carrier. Ensure they have fully ported your number, including the re-routing of SMS messages.
- Twilio's Role: Once a number has been fully ported away from Twilio, we no longer have control over the number and cannot route SMS messages.
- Hosted SMS Option: In some cases, Twilio may still be able to provide messaging services via Hosted SMS for certain phone numbers, even after they have been ported away. For more details on this service, you can refer to Twilio's Hosted Numbers FAQ in the Twilio console.
If you continue to face issues, it's crucial to follow up with your new carrier to ensure all aspects of the porting process, including SMS routing, are correctly configured.
