Business customer guide: End of Life (EOL) for use of Authy API with Twilio Authy Desktop apps

The Authy Desktop app for Linux, MacOS and Windows reached their End-of-Life on March 19, 2024 and are no longer supported.

Twilio released its last update (v3.0.0) to the Authy Desktop apps to dynamically increase the amount of rounds of password-based key derivation function for encrypting seeds, making passwords harder to brute force.

Authy recommendations

For Authy API Customers

For users implementing the Authy APIs to secure your application(s), we would like to recommend you the following:

  • Prepare communication around this notice and related timelines to your internal teams and your customers to minimize surprise or panic on the part of your customers.
  • Advise your customers to switch to our mobile apps, and share info on how to backup and sync their tokens across devices.
  • Depending on your use case, consider using the Verify TOTP API to register your users on a 3rd party desktop authenticator app.

For Authy App End Users

Please check our end user guide to find out what will happen to the Authy Desktop application, and our suggestions for the EOL: User guide: End of Life (EOL) for Twilio Authy Desktop app
