On March 31, 2021, Coinbase will be moving from Authy’s 2FA service to a generic TOTP-based 2FA implementation. Coinbase users may need to take action to continue securely using their site. This guide explains the available options, and our recommendations.
Notice: To help prevent any user confusion, we have hidden the old unusable Coinbase tokens that were created via Authy's 2FA service. Any new TOTP-based Coinbase 2FA tokens created via the below process will remain untouched.
Overview
Coinbase has notified users that they are changing their 2FA service options on March 31, 2021. Instead of Authy’s 2FA service, Coinbase will move to a generic TOTP-based 2FA implementation. This 2FA implementation will work with Authy, and a number of other TOTP-capable authenticator applications, but Authy users will need to reconfigure 2FA if they wish to continue using the Authy application.
What if I don’t take action?
Authy users who don’t update their 2FA preferences prior to March 31 will be automatically enrolled in TOTP 2FA over SMS. Users with no verified phone number on file will be required to login to their account and manually select a new 2FA method before they are able to withdraw from their account again.
